Adventures with my Mom

Who says life with residents in a retirement village can't be exciting??? Mom and I took a trip into town the other day. Little did we know what an adventure awaited us. To start the trip there was a little discussion about the route to take. It was decided, at my request, we would take a safer, longer route, rather than traveling through a rather rough part of town, which is shorter. Safety first is a good motto, I thought, trying to be a good example of a common sense person.

Our first destination was a car repair shop, to get an estimate on a broken tail light on the car. After traveling a circular route twice,

we decided to opt for plan B, and do the banking, then go to the grocery store. While I drove, Mom called the car repair shop to get more specific directions to the car repair shop. We finished the other errands and were ready to try again to find that hard to find car place. and once again we found ourselves on that circular route, around and around on Eucalyptus St. Finally on the second pass we had to give in and ask directions. Surely that nice police lady going into the court house would be able to tell us where we needed to go....Alas, she was as clueless as we were. She was from Lake Placid, and not familiar with the streets around here. But, wait, there is a maintenance man, see him, over there in the black scrubs, raking the yard? And sure enough, we was acquainted with the street, and even better yet knew the Car Repair place we needed to find. We go good directions from him, thanked him, and I have to say I was impressed with how polite he was, with his "yes, ma'am's" and his patience with us, as he gave directions and waited until he could see we understood.
As we turned to go, he went back to his work, and across the back of his shirt was printed...
"PRISONER OF HIGHLAND COUNTY" !!!!
Needless to say, we had quite a chuckle over that. Especially since I was so cautious about driving through that bad section of town. Asking directions from a prisoner has to rank right up there with taking a guided tour through the worst part of the city of Detroit....but, that's a story for another day. We were pleased to pull into the welcome entrance of our safe little Maranatha Village. Home again Home again Jiggity Jig.
I envision our guardian angels being just a little frazzled and bedraggled as they attempt to keep us safe and in one piece as we so often stumble through this life. We just never know when we will innocently be thrust into unexpected dangers and scarey situations. What a comfort to know our lives are sheltered in the hands of our invisible, all powerful God. The verse I chose for 2010 seems appropriate to apply here:

Psa 90:12 So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.
