Finishing the week and beginning the next

Let's see, the white pigeon is officially called Ruby, I have permission to choose the name, because she is going to live here...grandaughter said so! Ruby White Pigeon. We are still researching her housing needs and ... if anyone knows the whereabouts of a mate for her, we are looking for a male to join her, a male Birmingham Roller. We aren't coming up with much as far as where to locate this guy. She seems to be acclimating well so far.

The remaining part of the week we worked at moving the upright freezer to the Summer Kitchen, Tom put protective plastic around the areas that might allow water to get into the basement if...when...it rains. We need rain badly right now too by the way. We shuffled things

around in the Summer Kitchen, yet again, needed another wire shelf, which Tom got, and we put up, and filled. I finished canning the peaches and made 23 qts of V8 juice to add to the shelves holding our canned goods. As the tomatoes cooked, bread and hamburg buns for the week were made. And later peach upside down cake and cole slaw for the church picnic Sunday. While it just looks minor, a few sentences worth of activity...those accomplishments took all our energy and time and we didn't finish up until about 10 on Saturday evening. Whew.

Sunday was a good time of worship, fellowship, fun and food as it was Old Fashioned Sunday. Our morning service was under an open air tent. A good old fashioned gospel message, much like what we hear weekly, just the atmosphere outside was different. After the message, a picnic lunch, fried chicken and all the fixin's. While some took advantage of the number of horses brought to the event for horseback rides, others rode in a buckboard pulled by 2 pretty horses.

And if the horses weren't an attraction, the guitar, mandolin, harmonica playing and singing of gospel songs and choruses were a nice background for fellowship and meeting new folks.

A short service in the afternoon was followed by an ice cream social before we all packed up for home. It was a very nice day. Wasn't it Alaina? :-)
