The Ongoing Project

Hmmm. I only thought we were finished. I forgot we were still going to put drainage tiles around the perimeter of the house. That work began in earnest today, 8 10 09. Before we left for Florida, the end of June, some preliminary work had been done, and was left unfinished as we had been called away for a family health emergency. Amazingly, when we returned, the trenches were still open and waiting to be tied into tile, not yet laid.

It's amazing to watch the big back hoe and operator work together, moving that big bucketful of dirt as gently as a mother feeds a baby. And they are working around underground power and waterlines too.

I have a bucket of beans I thought I was going to make into canned bean salad today. My plans were altered ... postponed, because there was no electricity in the Summer Kitchen where I intended to work. Now, late in the day, everyone that was working has headed for home. So, maybe now I can begin my project in the Summer Kitchen.

I just wonder if all of this construction aftermath will ever really be done????

Today the piles of dirt are being put back into the trenches covering up the new drainage pipes. And maybe tomorrow the grading work will be accomplished then the gravel/ stone can be brought in and maybe, just maybe, there will be less sand to sweep up off the floor in the kitchen. One can hope.

The porches now have a first coat of gray paint on them as of yesterday that work got underway. Before fall, we should be officially finished with this House Project, complete when the grass is finally seeded after the grading is done. Everything in it's season.

I have left overs waiting for us for supper, then, when the power can be restored to the Summer Kitchen I'll venture out there to try to finish canning that bean salad. I did got the dry beans cooked, but stopped before finishing up. What a project.

I noticed today that there seems to be a lot of dust and dirt everywhere I look. Do you suppose it's because I prefer to expend my energy outside this time of year and completely ignore inside chores until the dust bunnies grow to giant proportions and threaten a complete take over??? I don't foreesee any major canning needing to be done the rest of the week, and I do foresee a great need in the housekeeping department. This week will be dedicated to reclaiming what the Dust Bunnies now rule. Wish me success in my Great War against the Wild Hares. Sounds a lot more glamorous than sweeping and dusting don't you think?
