We begin in earnest....

This blog is to journal our House Project Adventure. Our almost 100 year old farmhouse has basement under only 1/2 of the house, the rest is crawlspace. Our goal is to have the house lifted up, excavate the existing basement and foundation from under the house, have new foundation and floor poured and have a new basement and foundation under an old house. The final result will hopefully be, a solid foundation, a higher ceiling in the basement, more basement space for family gatherings and storage, more econical heating, thinking maybe geothermal heat pump, and a cold storage area for keeping fruit and veggies.

Several weeks ago, the project got underway by removing the fence from around the 15 year old (more or less) cottage garden. Thanks to willing family members and friends that garden has been relocated around various parts of this county and the next! Grow on Cottage Garden, and be the best you can be....elsewhere ! It's time!!!
Harry Lauder's Walking Stick remains in the center of the non existant cottage garden where we hope it may remain. If it becomes necessary to move it, we hope to have a Plan B... 1. a way to dig it up to preserve the root, and 2. a suitable place to transplant it to, that will allow a long and healthy life.

July 21, 2008 Today the remaining fence posts and rails from the Cottage Garden were removed and stored behind the soap shop. To be advertised for sale as soon as I get around to it. Privacy Forest in the front of the house was removed exposing windows and door to traffic passing by. I see more window shades in our future.

The front of the house Before

Oh, look there lurked a porch, such as it is, and a house behind that Privacy Forest.
I'll end this first entry now, and just say this is going to be an interesting adventure, I'm pretty sure of that. I can't wait to get the metal detector out when the porches come down. Perhaps the pot of gold awaits......

This is sadder then what I thought. I thought seeing those bushes go would be easy but I'm gonna miss those ole guys. We've had them for a long time. I almost cried. Almost. This is going to be long process if I'm getting weepy over the privacy forest.
