I had my camera in my pocket while I mowed the lawn today. This is a close up of a fruit, can you guess what kind???
If you guessed grapes, you are WRONG! This is how the plums look on the tree that Tom threatened to cut down this year! We've had the tree for a number of years and it has never had fruit on it before. We'll be canning plums before long.
Today Tom and Jon got serious about supporting the porch roof and that task is now completed. I took the metal detector out to see if there were any buried treasures. So far None. There are all kinds of nails, even some square ones from the old house that burned down I imagine. Jon found some melted glass up by the front door. I used the metal detector where the Cottage Garden was and found 2 pennies, both from the 60's, 1960's that is. Probably pennies left for posterity by our own children. One of my cousins tells a story about my Uncle flicking pennies into the yard off the porch that we have just torn down. I've had my metal detector in that yard several times and haven't found a one. So, either they were careful to pick them all up or I don't have the right porch.
The cement steps needed to be moved away from the porch area, and there was a bit of discussion as to where they should be set. Out of the way, there is a lot going on here right now in a lot of areas on the property so that's easier said than done. Finally Grandpa had a brainstorm....the grandchildren will love this. That is until someone falls and gets hurt. Perhaps some softly padded carpeting......

Well, I really guessed wrong...I thought they were beautiful golden delicious apples...I shouldn't admit it but, oh well.
I wouldn't have thought of them to be plums for sure. Thanks for reading and following along on our adventures.
