Juliy 23, 2008

Dawn breaks on a new day. Yesterdays work was moving the Privacy Forest, now reduced to a pile of brush near what used to be the north edge of the Cottage garden. Jon and Tom worked at that most of the forenoon.

After lunch, they started on the front porch. Determining how best to support the roof while tearing off all the floor. The first of the supports was cut and fitted in. We'll try to save the roof, since it was fairly recently done, and that part of the porch is still good.
While the guys did their work, I finished braiding the garlic harvest. After a late supper, Tom came to help, and learned how to braid the garlic too. That will help next year when it comes time to do it again. It's a process that seems to be hard on our hands. The middle stem, though still pliable, is strong and firm and resists being bent to be braided. Once they were all finished, we hung the finished product in the newly organized Summer Kitchen. Garlic makes it smell so good in there.
A moment of silence for the now deeased garden table. Jon made that, cemented it into the ground early in his building career, the year the big pine tree fell in a freak storm one November. It was the tree Julie always feared would fall into her bedroom. It served us well, first as a lovely tree, then as a table by the grill. Ants carried sand to the very top, right under the top surface. Lots and Lots of ants. Had we ever used that for food...Instant Ant Picnic. They were planning ahead I guess. The event never happened however.

And there she goes. Off to a better place.

So that catches you up on yesterdays work. And now the day is off to a new start.
Propping up the porch roof is todays task, for the guys. Tom spoke to the house mover last night, we are third in line now because of delays on our end. And so, it might be 4 - 6 weeks before they are ready to be here. God's timing is perfect. We'll just keep working toward the goal of being ready.
As for me, freezing green beans, mowing the lawns, and ... there was something else but I can't remember. Oh working on soap orders.
