It's Fall,where did Summer go????

I cannot believe it's October already and has been nearly a month since I last posted to the blog! Where did the time go? I'll try to post more pictures on the House Project since there have been changes in the looks of things around here...finally.

The basement is nearly all empty, the temporary storage area in the old chicken coop is nearly all full. It's time to start getting rid of the overflow I think.

I think I'll break this into smaller entries to make them easier to digest. And I'll start about mid September. The last entry was Sept 11th. That next week things began to happen. Grandchildren came a couple times to spend the night. I did my best to provide them with healthy entertainment and good memories. We made noodles for chicken noodle soup...and I must say, their interest and participation was remarkable. It reminds me of when I had to stay with my Grandma Bishop when I was young. She was stern. I dont' remember having fun times with her. I DO remember poking my finger in her noodle dough and getting a very sharp reprimand. Our noodle day wasn't like that. We all had fun and then we ate our finished product. It doesn't get any better than that.

The other set of grandchildren found unique ways to accomplish the apple harvest. They did a wonderful job picking up the dropped apples, then picking what was left on the tree. Apple juice and apple sauce will be the reminder of their efforts.

Pear harvest yielded the biggest, nicest and the most pears we've ever had. They were so pretty hanging on the tree. Who wouldn't love a walk through the orchard to see beautiful fruit like this? Where'd that fly come from????

The promise of a new Summer Kitchen looms large as stakes were set to map out the boundaries, obstacles were removed and fill dirt brought in and leveled. It meant the grapevines had to be taken out of the way, which in turn led to the slightly early harvest of 130 lbs of grapes. The best year yet for them. Lots of good tasting grape juice now tells the the tale of the grape harvest. Who is that pretty girl hiding behind the grapevine, and what is she discovering? Well now, a tiny little nest with 3 very small eggs and one larger egg, all abandoned. Anna found it interesting too. I'm curious who it belonged to, and what the story was that caused the nest to be left unattended. Tom managed to salvage that portion of grapevine with the nest still in tact. Now to find a place to hang it....

That brings the blog up to date as far as the summer kitchen activities.

Its early morn. here in La. I just read your blog and Im tired. It reminds me of life on the farm in Tn.My family (11 B&S)we did all of that canning and working at the time I just didnt appreciate it, but now I sure do miss all the togetherness. People that have never exp. farm life just dont know what they have missed. My mom spent countless hours canning and was so tired, but she never complained and always had a jar or jars to send home with company.Ok now Im sad and home sick. I will surely be checking up on your family soon. Have a blessed day, Treva in La.
